The Idea
tanks that isn’t visually appealing. Due to that fact, the applications of such a tank is restricted by either space, or
visual appeal of any area. We at Global Power Solutions saw a huge gap in the market for an innovative tank
that can meet the current demands of various applications and we designed the Smart Tank.
The Design
enhancing the visual appeal of an area.
The Innovation
When we designed the SMART TANK, we had some core objectives which are:
1. Space Saving and Modular
2. Multiple purposes
3. Visual appeal
4. Energy & Water efficient
5. Reliable clean drinkable back-up water supply
6. Rain-water harvesting
Space Saving & Modular
This objective was to provide a tank that can be used both indoor and outdoor but
provide a good backup water storage for a home.
After numerous size and design calculations, we settled on a design that has an
extremely small foot print and is modular allowing the tank to form a water bank
that are interconnected in a variety of layouts to meet multiple applications being your Estates, Complexes and Apartments as the core market. With this design, we managed to provide a tank that holds 365L of water per tank. This resulted in a small dual setup footprint of 600mm X 600mm holding 700+ litres
of water.
Visual Appeal
This objective was another important factor as the current tanks in the markets are
not appealing to the eye and that’s one of the main reasons most Estates and
complexes don’t allow them to be installed.
We looked at this point and we designed the SMART TANK that firstly doesn’t look
like a tank in any way but more of a detailed piece of art that is positioned in an
area. We further gave this objective more room for customising by providing flat
surfaces that can be tiled, cladded, painted and many more resulting in a TANK that
can beatify any area.
Energy & Water Efficient
This objective was to make the tank capable of ensuring the water is never stored for long
periods within the tank but at the same time not requiring the used of an electric pump to
pump the water.
This was achieved by making the tank into a vessel that can hold pressure and that resulted
in a tank that maintains a manufacturer specified regulated inlet line pressure so the water
flows through the tank to the taps, toilets, showers, etc.
This ensures that the water is always replenished with fresh clean water without the used
of any electricity and that removes the need for any additional water treatments to keep
the water clean.
Further to that, most municipal line pressure is set between 3-6bar which is not really what
most homes require. So reducing the pressure significantly can provide a huge saving of
water over a period of time not forgetting the prevention of rapid wear of the plumbing
circuit.
Another huge potential energy saving factor is through solar heating. By manufacturing this
tank is a black colour and placing it onto roofs, you can have over 300litres of warm to hot
water depending of the temperature and that can be gravity fed to showers, baths and
faucets.
Reliable drinkable water Back-up
This objective was to ensure that the end user can have peace of mind that
the water that is supplied from the tank is of the same high quality that is
provided from the municipality.
1. This was achieved by the use of food grade virgin material as the
foundation.
2. This was then coupled by a tank wall thickness of 7-10mm which allows
zero entry of any light preventing growth of micro-organism.
3. The tank being completely sealed preventing any foreign particles from
entering and contaminating the water.
4. The ability of the tank to self replenish automatically with fresh clean
water ensuring the tank is always fill and ready to serve when needed.
Rain-water Harvesting
This objective was to ensure that the importance of Rain-water harvesting was
made easy and possible in any area.
1. This was achieved by firstly making use of a rain catch that is positioned on the tank matching
one or more tank setup.
2. This rain catch was designed comprising of a easy to clean filter mesh to reduce foreign matter
from entering the tank.
3. The process of collecting rainfall directly vs off roofs significantly increase the purity of the
rainfall collected.
4. Lastly, the stand-alone feature means that no roof structure or gutter modification is required.
It’s a simple place and collect all in one setup.
